According to Alpha Tanker, shipyards are estimated to be at close to maximum capacity and thus individual scrubber retrofitting delays are having a domino effect, reports Lloyd’s List.
Duration for installation
The average time for installation of a scrubber is 40 days, longer than the anticipated 30 days.
Delays will keep at least 40 to 50 tankers off hire for the rest of the year.
Some 86 tankers have entered dry dock for retrofitting scrubbers so far in 2019, compared with 153 bulk carriers and 76 containerships.
