The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has signed agreements with an Egyptian–Turkish alliance to establish two major logistics projects aimed at enhancing container handling, storage, and repair. The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional logistics hub.

Establishing “SIGMA Egypt” for Logistics Services

The alliance, which includes the Arab Organization for Industrialization, United Egy Group (Egypt), Sigma Logistics & Containers (Turkey), and Logi Trade (Turkey), has formed a joint venture called SIGMA Egypt. This new entity will operate two customs-bonded yards dedicated to container storage, handling, and repair while also offering value-added logistics services.

The projects will cover a total area of 100,000 square meters, split equally between Qantara West and Sokhna. With $4.2 million (EGP 203 million) in self-financed investments, these projects are expected to create around 100 direct job opportunities. The Qantara West site becomes the 33rd project in its industrial zone, while Sokhna continues to grow as a hub for trade and logistics.

Enhancing SCZONE’s Role in Global Trade

According to Mr. Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of SCZONE, these projects reflect investor confidence and highlight SCZONE’s role as a central player in logistics integration. The new facilities will reduce supply chain costs, improve container handling efficiency, and support both regional and international trade.

Major General Eng. Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, emphasized that the partnership represents a strategic step toward supporting Egypt’s national industry, reducing import dependency, and opening new export markets. With advanced manufacturing capabilities and skilled human resources, the organization will contribute to achieving global quality standards while boosting Egypt’s logistics and industrial competitiveness.

The launch of “SIGMA Egypt” and its logistics projects in Qantara West and Sokhna aligns with Egypt’s national strategy to strengthen its logistics sector, attract foreign investments, and expand its role as a global supply chain hub. By leveraging SCZONE’s strategic ports and industrial zones, these projects promise to enhance trade flows, create new job opportunities, and advance Egypt’s vision of sustainable economic growth.
