- India’s First F.A.S.T. Ecosystem Unveiled at SDHI’s Pipavav Shipyard.
Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI), India’s largest shipbuilding and heavy fabrication company, has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wheel & Time Shipping Transport Logistics, a specialist in transporting heavy and oversized cargo. This partnership marks the launch of India’s first integrated F.A.S.T. (Fabrication, Assembly, Storage, and Transportation) commercial logistics ecosystem at SDHI’s state-of-the-art shipyard in Pipavav, Gujarat, reports DSIJ.
The F.A.S.T. Model: A Breakthrough for Heavy Engineering Projects
The F.A.S.T. model offers a comprehensive, turnkey ecosystem designed to execute heavy engineering projects in India. By combining SDHI’s advanced fabrication and waterfront infrastructure with Wheel & Time’s end-to-end logistics capabilities, the alliance aims to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. The ecosystem is targeted at high-value, time-sensitive projects across various industries, including material handling at ports, marine infrastructure, petrochemicals, offshore EPC, oil & gas infrastructure, and heavy engineering.
Benefits of the F.A.S.T. Ecosystem
The partnership aims to shorten project execution timelines, minimise handoffs, reduce overall project risks, and provide scalable solutions connected to global shipping networks. It is designed to offer seamless coordination across every phase of the project lifecycle, from fabrication to final shipment, all managed within the same facility.
SDHI’s Advanced Shipyard Infrastructure
SDHI’s shipyard in Pipavav spans 600 acres and boasts India’s largest dry dock, with a capacity to fabricate and assemble structures weighing up to 10,000 tonnes per month. The facility is equipped with advanced CNC (Computer Numerical Control) and robotic systems for steel cutting, along with hydraulic presses capable of handling up to 1,600 tonnes for precise manufacturing. It also provides specialised machinery for the lifting of heavy loads, increasing its ability to execute intricate heavy engineering projects.
Seamless End-to-End Logistics Support
From material import to final delivery, each value chain step is executed on-site without the requirement of inland transportation and multi-vendor coordination. Under this partnership, Wheel & Time will offer a comprehensive range of heavy-lift equipment, such as Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs), hydraulic trailers, and Marine Transport Vessels (MTVs), allowing for efficient and hassle-free transport of over-dimensional/oversized cargo globally.
