Sea-Cargo has placed a repeat order with Norsepower to retrofit two more RoRo vessels, MV Trans Hav and MV Trans Sol, with Norsepower Rotor Sails™.
-
The vessels will be equipped with three 24x4m rotor sails each, along with other sustainable upgrades, potentially reducing fuel consumption by up to 50%.
-
The SC Connector, Sea-Cargo’s first ship fitted with this technology, has demonstrated fuel savings of 20–25% on average, with up to 70% savings on individual voyages.

This move aligns with Sea-Cargo’s commitment to sustainability and compliance with stricter EU emissions regulations.
Norsepower, a global leader in wind propulsion technology, has reinforced its collaboration with long-time partner Sea-Cargo through a new order for additional vessel retrofits. Norwegian shipping company Sea-Cargo will install Norsepower Rotor Sails™ on two more of its RoRo vessels, MV Trans Hav and MV Trans Sol (formerly MV Misida and MV Misana). This expansion marks another milestone in their shared goal of reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency.
Maximizing Fuel Efficiency with Rotor Sails
Operating between Norway and continental Europe, the two 165-meter vessels will each be equipped with three 24x4m Norsepower Rotor Sails. Combined with other advanced sustainability measures, these retrofits are expected to cut fuel consumption by up to 50%, making a significant impact on energy efficiency and operational costs.
Proven Performance and Regulatory Compliance
Sea-Cargo’s decision builds on the success of its first wind-assisted vessel, the SC Connector, which has consistently achieved fuel savings of 20–25% over several years, with up to 70% reductions on individual voyages. Johan Christian Hvide, CTO of Seatrans, emphasized that the impressive performance of the SC Connector made it an easy decision to implement rotor sails on additional vessels. With tightening EU emissions regulations, this technology not only enhances efficiency but also ensures compliance with evolving environmental policies.
A Commitment to Sustainable Maritime Operations
By expanding its use of wind-assisted propulsion, Sea-Cargo reaffirms its dedication to reducing carbon emissions while maintaining efficient trade routes. The Norsepower Rotor Sails have proven their reliability even in the harsh conditions of the North Sea, making them a suitable choice for the company’s operations.
Heikki Pöntynen, CEO of Norsepower, highlighted the importance of this continued collaboration, stating that the repeat order is a testament to the strong partnership between the two companies and the effectiveness of the technology. Norsepower remains committed to supporting Sea-Cargo in its mission to lead the way in sustainable maritime transportation.
