Sea-Intelligence has reported a significant milestone in global shipping schedule reliability, with two consecutive month-over-month (M/M) improvements. In March 2025, the global schedule reliability increased by 3.0 percentage points to 57.5%, marking the highest level since November 2023. This improvement follows a 1.6 percentage point increase in February, indicating a positive trend in operational performance across the shipping industry.
Key Highlights
- Top Performers: Maersk led the top-13 carriers with a schedule reliability of 66.9%, followed by Hapag-Lloyd at 64.3% and MSC at 61.9%.
- Alliance Performance: The new Gemini alliance achieved a schedule reliability of 90.3% across all arrivals, surpassing the MSC alliance at 75.8%. In contrast, the Premier Alliance recorded 53.2%, while the Ocean Alliance, 2M, and THE alliances scored 54.9%, 43.1%, and 46.5%, respectively.
- Methodology Update: For the new alliances, Sea-Intelligence introduced a combined metric for both origin and destination arrivals, termed “ALL arrivals,” alongside the traditional “TRADE arrivals” metric, which focuses solely on destination calls. This adjustment provides a more comprehensive view of alliance performance.
Implications for the Industry
The consecutive improvements in schedule reliability suggest a stabilization in global shipping operations, offering shippers more predictable service levels. However, the industry remains vigilant, as the full rollout of new alliances is expected by July 2025, which may further influence performance metrics.
