Cosco Shipping has ordered two trailblazing Offshore Energy Support Vessels at its Chinese shipyard to support the companys growth prospects. The new vessels will be delivered in 2027. With these, Sea1s fleet will grow to 19 offshore vessels, reports Sea1 Offshore

Advanced Vessel Specifications

The new vessels will be 120 meters in length and will have a free deck area of 1,400 square meters. For every ship, it is capable of mounting a 250-tonne deck crane, ROV hangar, and moonpool, with the capacity to accommodate up to 120 personnel. This means that the vessels can quite well perform a wide range of offshore operations with the very highest standards of efficiency and reliability.

Supporting Offshore Energy Growth

According to Bernt Omdal, CEO of Sea1, this investment aligns with the companys growth strategy and strengthens its position as a leading service provider to the offshore energy sector worldwide. Omdal says the demand for services in the traditional oil and gas sector remains high, but at the same time, there is growth in the renewable energy market. The vessels are designed to support both sectors, including emerging needs for offshore wind farm support.

Environment Commitment to Fewer Emissions

Among the commitments to being more sustainable, the newest vessels are built on ST-245 advancement, which has been well-equipped with the latest advanced technologies for reduced emissions. The ships are methanol-ready, and if needed, the generators onboard can run on 100% biofuel. Being eco-friendly is flexible when it comes to the highest standards of modern environmental settings and customer expectations.

Prospects for the Offshore Market

Omdal believes companies with modern and versatile vessels would have bright earning potential as chartering contracts and rates soar in the offshore sector. Sea1 is in negotiations with Cosco Shipping regarding the ordering of additional vessels; this is an optimistic sign in terms of future demand.

“Chartering contracts and rates are on the rise in the offshore sector, and we expect good earning potential for players who can provide modern and well-equipped ships to the market,” says Omdal.
