Seafarer Falls Overboard a Ship and Rescue Operations On
A seafarer, in his 30s, suspected to have fallen overboard from the Cyprus registered container vessel off Sweden.
The boxship was en route from Rauma with a cargo of containers to Bremerhaven, north of Bremen in Germany.
Many units were called to the scene to participate in rescue operations in frigid waters, including a ferry, cargo boats, pilot boat, rescue helicopter, an airplane, as well as units from the Lifeboat and Coast Guard. At a water temperature of 3 or 4 degrees, the prospects of finding anyone alive were considered hopeless.
