SulNOxEco™ by SulNOx is a powerful solution for maritime emissions compliance, achieving over 5% marine diesel consumption reduction in a five-month trial.
Greening Maritime Fuels
This pivotal evaluation paves the way for substantial fuel savings and emissions reductions across the maritime industry. SulNOx’s “no-capex,” drop-in fuel conditioners are compatible with a variety of commonly used marine fuels, offering a pragmatic approach to meeting global and regional emissions standards, such as the IMO’s Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) and the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).
Ben Richardson, CEO of SulNOx, remarked: “The maritime industry is at a crossroads, grappling with the ecological and ethical imperatives of emissions reduction. While the industry contemplates future fuel alternatives, immediate action is essential. Our fuel conditioners offer a straightforward, cost-effective solution to optimise existing fuels, reduce costs, and mitigate harmful emissions.”
Proven Fuel Efficiency
The trial involved the application of SulNOxEco™ Diesel Conditioner to a vessel’s fuel during commercial voyages in the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Baseline measurements were taken at 60% and 70% engine load on a two-stroke MAN B&W 6S35MC engine, and then compared with results obtained using SulNOxEco™ treated fuel. The trial recorded a consistent 5-6% reduction in specific fuel consumption using a 1:2000 ratio of SulNOxEco™ Diesel Conditioner in MDO fuel (DIN ISO 8217).
Further trials are planned, focusing on engines running VLSFO, where even greater fuel-saving effects are anticipated. Previous studies have already demonstrated SulNOxEco™’s efficacy in reducing harmful PM 2.5 particulate matter emissions by over 60% and engine maintenance costs by around 2%.
The results underscore SulNOx’s commitment to providing immediate, effective solutions for the maritime industry as it navigates the complex waters of emissions reduction and environmental responsibility.
