Seamen Rescued from Sea Arrested for Smuggling

A Ukrainian ship rescued by Russian seamen was reportedly arrested in Greece for transporting cigarettes of unknown origin.

A coast guard official in Greece informed that, “A cargo vessel RS-300 No. 97 under the flag of Ukraine with seven crew members – citizens of Ukraine, which, according to the captain, was flying from Montenegro to Lebanon, was towed because of mechanical breakdown on the eve early morning in the port of Paleochora area of Chania in Crete.  This ship was carrying a lot of cigarettes; the legality of the cargo is studying the customs of Chania”.

It is clarified that the inspection of local authorities has revealed serious flaws, and authorities have banned the release of the vessel from the port.
