Seaspan Corporation has expanded its ambitious fleet renewal program with an order for twelve new 9,000 TEU container ships. With this latest contract, the company now has a total of 67 new vessels under construction in China, reports Xinde Marine News.

Seaspan’s Growing Fleet & Global Partnerships

The new ships are expected to be delivered starting from 2028. While they will be powered by conventional fuel, the vessels are being designed with dual-fuel readiness, giving Seaspan the option to switch to alternative fuels in line with future environmental regulations. This design approach highlights the company’s commitment to flexible and sustainable fleet development.

Seaspan has already placed several large orders in recent years, including ultra-large container vessels with capacities exceeding 13,000 TEU. These new 9,000 TEU ships will add balance to its fleet, ensuring a mix of vessel sizes that can serve a wide range of global trade routes.

As the world’s largest independent owner and lessor of containerships, Seaspan continues to expand both its operating fleet and orderbook. With over 180 vessels currently in service and dozens more scheduled for delivery, the company is positioning itself to meet future demand in container shipping while aligning with the industry’s energy transition goals.
