Seaspan Energy Completes First LNG Bunkering To Car Carrier At Port Of Long Beach

Seaspan Energy completed its first LNG ship-to-ship bunkering operation to a pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) at the Port of Long Beach. The Seaspan Baker successfully transferred LNG at anchor to the Plumeria Leader, an LNG-powered vessel operated by NYK Line. This follows Seaspan’s earlier milestone of bunkering a tanker in Long Beach on May 17.

Industry Collaboration and Sustainability Goals

“This is a proud achievement for our team and partners,” said Harly Penner, President of Seaspan Energy. Kaori Takahashi of NYK Line echoed the sentiment, highlighting the importance of partnerships in advancing low-carbon fuel solutions.

Environmental Impact and Future Plans

LNG (liquefied natural gas) offers up to 27% reduction in lifecycle GHG emissions, along with over 90% lower NOx, SOx, and particulate emissions. This cleaner fuel alternative helps meet IMO environmental targets and improves air quality in port cities across North America’s West Coast.

With a fleet of three LNG bunkering vessels and a growing track record in refueling PCTCs, tankers, cruise ships, and container ships, Seaspan Energy is rapidly positioning itself as a leader in LNG bunkering services in the region.
