Seaspan Corporation’s parent company Atlas Corp. has announced it has entered into agreements with a ‘major’ shipyard to construct four ‘ultra-modern’ 7,700 TEU dual-fuel LNG containership newbuilds, reads an official press release.
The vessels are anticipated to be delivered in the third and fourth quarters of 2024, and will enter into long-term charters with a leading global liner customer upon completion, Atlas Corp. said.

The charters include purchase obligations at the conclusion of the charter terms, and are expected to contribute approximately $0.95 billion of gross contracted cash flow.
‘The vessels are anticipated to be financed through existing liquidity, cash flow from operations, and additional borrowings,’ Atlas Corp. said. ‘The transaction remains subject to certain closing conditions.’
As previously reported, at the beginning of the year, Seaspan Corporation secured $1.4 billion in structured financing for 10 15,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel newbuild vessels, rounding off the funding for its $7.6 billion 70-vessel newbuild programme.
