  • Seatrium to Retrofit CCS on Solvang’s Future VLGC Fleet.
  • Landmark CCS Agreement Sealed at Nor-Shipping 2025.

Seatrium Limited has just taken a significant step by signing a Letter of Intent (LOI) with its long-time partner, Solvang ASA from Norway. This exciting agreement focuses on installing and retrofitting full-scale Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) systems on Solvang’s vessels, reports Seatrium.

Milestone Signing at Nor-Shipping 2025

The LOI was officially signed during Nor-Shipping 2025 in Oslo, highlighting the strong commitment both companies share towards sustainable maritime solutions and their ongoing efforts to decarbonise their fleets.

Building on the Success of the Clipper Eris Project

This new collaboration builds on the success of the Clipper Eris project, which saw the world’s first full-scale turnkey retrofit of a 7MW CCS system completed in February 2025. Seatrium played a key role by providing comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) solutions for the CCS package in that project.

Next Phase: CCS Retrofits on New VLGCs

Looking ahead, Solvang’s upcoming series of Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs), already designed for CCS integration, are set to be the first candidates for the next phase of full-scale CCS retrofitting. Project work is expected to kick off in late 2026.

Strategic Collaboration

Mr Alvin Gan, Executive Vice President of Seatrium Repairs and Upgrades, said: “This partnership demonstrates our commitment to advance sustainable solutions in the maritime decarbonisation journey. Building on the success of the pioneer project together on Clipper Eris, we are honoured by Solvang’s trust in Seatrium to take the next step in their critical CCS programme. This remarkable step will deepen our resolve as strategic partners in supporting maritime decarbonisation efforts.”

Mr Tor Ask, Fleet Director of Solvang ASA, added: “We are pleased to extend our successful partnership with Seatrium through this CCS initiative for our newbuildings. Seatrium’s proven capabilities, demonstrated by the Clipper Eris retrofit, give us full confidence that this collaboration will bring tremendous value. Both organisations are aligned in delivering greener, energy-efficient maritime solutions for a lower-carbon future.”
