Seatrium has announced the awarding of a Classification contract to the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for the newbuild floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels P-84 and P-85, with final delivery expected by 2029. These FPSOs are the first to be awarded following the Technology Collaboration Agreement (TCA) between ABS and Seatrium, which aims to promote decarbonization, digitalization, and innovation in the offshore industry.

Innovative and Environmentally Friendly Features

The FPSOs will integrate advanced technologies to boost operational efficiency and minimize environmental impact. Notable features include the elimination of routine flaring and venting, the use of variable speed drives, and the implementation of emissions control and CO2 capture measures. Additionally, an all-electric concept focused on efficient power generation and enhanced energy efficiency is expected to achieve a 30 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity compared to traditional designs.

Industry Impact and Leadership Statements

Christopher J. Wiernicki, ABS Chairman and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “This is an exciting moment for the industry, and we are delighted to work with Seatrium on state-of-the-art designs. The industry is undergoing tremendous change, and these new units will meet demand, support the energy transition, and incorporate digitalization.”

Digital Collaboration and Lifecycle Services

Seatrium and ABS will jointly promote digital collaboration across the offshore, marine, and energy sectors. This partnership aims to elevate lifecycle services for ongoing, completed, and upcoming projects through advanced technology. The collaboration will also promote a shift towards a Condition-based Class methodology for floating production assets, providing asset owners with data-driven insights for targeted surveys, boosting operational uptime, and streamlining maintenance.

Innovative Approaches and 5G-Based Remote Inspection

The partnership will pioneer innovative approaches to drive digital transformation and operational excellence. Among the ongoing efforts are joint trials and qualification of 5G-based remote inspection solutions for EPC and Repairs & Upgrade projects in Seatrium’s yards globally, aimed at transforming operational processes and enhancing efficiency.

Strategic Vision for Digital Solutions

Chris Ong, CEO of Seatrium, emphasized the strategic importance of the collaboration: “This latest collaboration complements our product offerings with end-to-end digital solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers globally. We look forward to working with ABS to leverage digital technology to develop innovative solutions that will help our customers optimize operations, reduce environmental impact, and drive sustainable growth.”
