Serious Incident at Sea Reported Near Somalia

A ship had a serious incident on 23 April, around 508 nautical miles off the coast of Mogadishu, Somalia, as per a report by United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), reports Safety4Sea.

Fire and Flooding in the Engine Room

At 1200 UTC, the ship reported a fire in the engine room. Although the fire was successfully put out, the magnitude of the damage is unknown as a result of subsequent flooding within the engine compartment. The vessel is currently adrift but not taking on water.

Injured Crew Member Evacuated

A member of the crew was injured and needed immediate medical care. The Indian Navy came to the rescue in the emergency, offering medical assistance and evacuating the injured crew member. The rest of the crew is safe and still on board the ship.

Ongoing Support and Monitoring

The military authorities have been alerted and are themselves coordinating the efforts for support and monitoring. Additional updates are anticipated as the response is ongoing.
