Smart Freight Centre (SFC) and the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS) have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the development and adoption of innovative solutions for zero-emission shipping.
By combining their expertise, resources, and networks, both organizations aim to make significant strides toward decarbonizing the maritime industry while promoting sustainable practices across freight and logistics.
Strengthening Collaboration for Sustainable Shipping
SFC specializes in solutions that help container and RoRo carriers, freight forwarders, and shippers transition toward low-carbon operations in maritime transport, aviation, and fleet electrification. The new partnership builds on earlier collaborations, including initiatives such as the “book & claim” registry, Katalist, where SFC played a key role in piloting and continues to serve on the expert committee.
Leaders from both organizations emphasize that partnerships are essential for the green transition, as no single entity can tackle the climate challenge alone. MMMCZCS CEO Bo Cerup-Simonsen highlighted SFC’s expertise as vital to their shared mission of reducing emissions in the maritime sector.
Expanding Impact Through Strategic Alliances
Beyond this collaboration, SFC has also advanced its sustainability efforts by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Green Marine in 2024. This voluntary environmental certification program spans North America and Europe and aims to further environmental stewardship in the maritime industry. Through such alliances, SFC continues to position itself as a leader in driving systemic change in freight and logistics.
The partnership between SFC and MMMCZCS marks a significant step toward achieving zero-emission shipping. By leveraging shared expertise and a strong history of collaboration, the two organizations aim to transform ambition into tangible action.
As the maritime industry faces increasing pressure to decarbonize, such mission-aligned partnerships will be crucial in scaling real-world solutions for a greener future.
