Malfunctioning of the Bui Dam had resulted in a shortfall in the water level of the Volta Lake.  So, the cargo vessel that serves the Northern region has been left stranded.

There are fears the situation will heavily affect the finances of the company.  The pusher tug transports fuel including kerosene, diesel and petrol from the storage facility of the Bulk Oil Storage & Transportation Company Limited (BOST) to the Northern and upper regions and also to the northern parts of the Brong Ahafo region.  The Cargo Vessel also transports food stuffs, agricultural machinery, drugs, cement, cotton for the textile industry, among others to Buipe.

BOST contributes over 70% of the total revenue of the Volta Lake transport.
