A foreign ship captain was found dead in the control room of his docked vessel at Senari Port on Feb 3.
The deceased, identified as 49-year-old Myanmar national Zaw Win, was found lifeless around 7.30 a.m. by his crew who had gone to check on him following their last encounter the night before.
Medical personnel arrived at the scene to check on the victim after being summoned and confirmed the death, with police later transporting the body to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem.
A source indicated the victim had arrived here from Bintulu two days ago, and was suffering from health-related issues.
“He had undergone a check-up in Bintulu prior to sailing here, and was told he needed to rest. But he insisted on going because he said there was no one else available to helm the ship,” said the source.
District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said the case has been classified as sudden death pending the result of the post-mortem.
