On June 4, a ship captain was reported missing after he fell from the vessel into the sea at the Chittagong sea port.
What happened?
The Captain of the Cyprus flagged ship ‘MV Erina’ went missing after he fell from the vessel into the waters at Chittagong sea port tonight. The bulk carrier was carrying around 28,458 tonnes of materials including steel pipes and machineries for Payra sea port in Patuakhali.
The 57 year old Greek Captain identified as Makopoulos Vasileios was incharge of the ship which was enroute from China.
Slipped from ladder
The Captain slipped from the rope ladder when he was surveying the vessel’s draught at Jetty no. 7 at the port.
The people onboard the ship could not rescue the captain as he was caught in the ebb tide and raised an alarm to the port officials.
Search on for the missing Captain
The port officials dispatched seven patrol and two turbo boats to conduct a search and rescue operation at the spot.
An investigation has also been initiated to determine the sequence of events leading to this fall and the vessel is currently anchored at the Chittagong port.
