A tanker vessel laden with fuel is currently anchored in Mackay Harbour waiting for the green signal.
The Mackay Harbour is currently waiting for power to be restored after it was hit by cyclone Debbie.
Run out of fuel:
Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson said Bloomsbury had run out of fuel.
“There’s a whole range of trucks parked out at Bloomsbury and that feeds a lot of the northern extremities of our region, for instance, Midge Point,” Cr Williamson said.
“They have finally (cleared) the road to Midge Point but there is no fuel for generators, the guys haven’t had power for three days in a row now.”
Measures to restore power:
Williamson said an urgent request was currently with Ergon Energy to get the power back on at Mackay Harbour to allow the fuel ship to pump once it can safely make it through the channel.
The mayor said 55% of the Mackay region was still without power, but Ergon was “working hard” to get it back on.
“They have 200 crews working in the district. Hats off to Ergon, they’re working really strong to get people back on power,” Cr Williamson said.
Airport services restored:
“The airport is back on track but there’s no fuel there yet but there’s a ship out there at the harbour ready to discharge fuel out to the district but there’s no power out at the harbour yet.”
