A large quantity of suspected cocaine has been seized from a cargo ship in County Limerick, reports the Irish Times.

Irish Times reported that drugs worth €20m (£17.3m) were found, external while the vessel was docked at Foynes harbour.

The discovery was reportedly made by officers from Ireland’s Revenue Customs Service.

Irish Times said that it was “currently undertaking a live operation and no further comment is available“.

A Garda (Irish police) spokeswoman said officers were “aware of a live operation being led by Revenue Customs Service” but did not provide any details.

The find comes just two days after Revenue officers seized approximately 12.5kg of cocaine with an estimated value of over €876,000 (£759,00) at Rosslare Europort in County Wexford. That seizure was made when officers searched a freight unit that had disembarked from a ferry from Cherbourg in France.
