On June 15, an Indian offshore supply ship was detained by Britain’s maritime authorities after surveyors found three deficiencies when it docked in Aberdeen.
The deficiencies on the ship:
- Related to wages (missing)
- Calculation and payment of wages (no records)
- Seafarers employment (invalid)
Maritime and Coastguard Agency said when a foreign ship at a UK port is found to be not in compliance with applicable convention requirements, a deficiency may be raised. The ship will be detained if any deficiencies are so serious that they have to be rectified before departure.
The Indian vessel was among three foreign ships detained during June, the agency added.
Britain is part of a regional agreement known as the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control. Information on all ships inspected is held centrally in an electronic database known as THETIS, which allows ships with a high-risk rating and poor detention records to be targeted for future inspection.
