The 1998-built OOCL Belgium, a Containership, when it was on its way from Montreal to UK, suffered unspecified damage and the surveyor recommended an unscheduled maintenance work following main engine inspection, at the port of Montreal.
This has left the vessel out of service for at least two weeks. It is to be noted that the same vessel had experienced a propeller damage some three years before as the vessel transited through ice in the strait of Belle Isle in February 2013.
“The unscheduled maintenance work was recommended by the surveyor following a main engine inspection at the port of Montreal,” a representative from the Hong Kong-based container shipping company Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) told to news reports.
Further, the company has managed a quick remedial action by introducing MV Cap Harrisson as a recovery plan.
