Shipping Containers Ablaze at Turkey’s Iskenderun Port

A fire has erupted in containers toppled at the Port of Iskenderun by the powerful earthquakes that rocked Turkey Monday. More than 2,400 people are believed to have been killed after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck just before dawn on Monday in southern Turkey near the northern border of Syria. Hours later, a 7.5 magnitude aftershock was recorded, reports gcaptain.

Meanwhile, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) terminal that exports Azeri crude oil be closed through February 8th while operators assess earthquake damage, a Turkish shipping agent said.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquakes occurred near the East Anatolia fault in an area known to be seismically active.
