Ships Detained With Crews Locked Onboard

Two Palmali Group ships are detained with crews onboard in Ravenna Italy, after Court rule, reports Maritime Bulletin.

The detained ships

Two Palmali Group ships that are detained after Court rule: 

  1. tanker GOBUSTAN (since middle of June, according to track records), and 
  2. general cargo ship SULTAN BEY, after she docked at Ravenna on Jul 16, on arrival from Istanbul. 

Reason for detention

A number of ships of the Palmali Group are detained or seized throughout the Med region. The reason is the company’s outstanding debts. 

The core problem is the owner of the Group is under arrest in Turkey. 

Fate of the crew

The locked crew of both the ships are supported by a seamen charity organization.

The 13 crew of GOBUSTAN (includes Russian and Azerbaijan nationalities) and SULTAN BEY crew can’t leave the ship even for a shore walk, let alone be repatriated.
