A Seafarer was evacuated from the vessel offshore of Mouille Point, Cape Town on Sunday.
A sea rescue craft, Spirit of Vodacom, was launched by the NSRI Table Bay duty crew, accompanied by a Western Cape emergency rescue service (EMS) paramedic to evacuate the sailor.
It is believed that the ship’s engineer suffered a stroke. Hence, the car carrier rendezvoused with the rescue craft.
Spokesman Craig Lambinon said: “On arrival on the scene the patient was assessed by the EMS rescue paramedic and found to be suffering a mild stroke (TIA – transient ischaemic attack)… the patient was transferred onto the sea rescue craft and brought to the NSRI Table Bay base and transported to hospital by EMS ambulance in a stable condition.”
