Silverstream Technologies Expands Partnership With Carnival Corporation For Decarbonization

Maritime clean technology leader Silverstream Technologies has announced an agreement with Carnival Corporation & plc, the world’s largest cruise company, to install its Silverstream® System on two additional Excel-class cruise ships. These vessels, with a gross tonnage of 180,000 GT and a capacity exceeding 5,000 passengers, are under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany and are set for delivery in 2027 and 2028.

Key Highlights of the Agreement

1. Sustainability and Efficiency:
   • The ships will feature LNG power and integrate advanced sustainability technologies, including the Silverstream® System, which provides up to 10% reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
   • These vessels will be the third and fourth Excel-class ships in Carnival’s fleet to incorporate this technology.
2. Silverstream® System Performance:
   • Previously delivered 5% net fuel and emissions savings onboard Princess Cruises’ Diamond Princess.
   • Recognized by leading institutions such as Lloyd’s Register and the University of Southampton for its efficiency.
3. Carnival’s Decarbonization Goals:
   • Carnival aims to reduce carbon intensity by 40% by 2026, surpassing initial timelines by four years.
   • The two newbuilds will bring the number of Carnival vessels equipped with the Silverstream® System to 16.

  • The Silverstream® System reduces friction between the hull and water, significantly saving fuel and emissions.
