Singapore And Hamburg Partner For Maritime Decarbonisation And Innovation

51

Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) and the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to deepen their collaboration on maritime decarbonisation, digitalisation, and cybersecurity. This partnership builds on the strong bilateral relationship between Singapore and Germany and aligns with efforts to upgrade relations to a strategic partnership.

Advancing Maritime Decarbonisation

The LOI focuses on promoting zero and near-zero emission fuels, crew training, and safety protocols. The two port authorities will share knowledge on sustainable fuel development and explore on-shore power supply to reduce emissions, helping accelerate the maritime sector’s transition to cleaner energy sources.

Boosting Digitalisation for Efficiency

MPA and HPA aim to enhance port efficiency by exchanging information on port systems and procedures. They will also explore pilot projects to improve port call efficiency between Hamburg and Singapore, streamlining operations through innovative digital solutions.

Strengthening Maritime Cybersecurity

Recognising the increasing importance of cybersecurity, both authorities will facilitate information exchange and establish operational links between their ports. Additionally, they will offer cybersecurity training to maritime professionals and students, enhancing the resilience of maritime infrastructure against cyber threats.

This partnership also includes an MOU between NUS Enterprise and Digihub, fostering start-up innovation and growth through collaboration and pilot projects.
