Singapore and India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Singapore-India Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC).
The agreement, witnessed by the Prime Ministers of both nations during Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s visit to New Delhi on 4 September 2025, marks a significant step in promoting sustainability and innovation in the maritime sector.
Advancing Green Shipping and Alternative Fuels
Under the MoU, both countries will collaborate with industry partners to build infrastructure and adopt technologies that enable the maritime sector’s transition to zero or near-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emission fuels. This includes exploring and supporting the production, export, and use of alternative marine fuels, leveraging India’s renewable energy capacity and industrial base.
Driving Digitalisation and Joint Innovation
The agreement also focuses on digitalisation by enabling digital information exchange between the two countries. In addition, joint research into emerging green technologies and solutions will be carried out to support the maritime industry’s transformation. With Singapore’s position as a global hub for bunkering and maritime innovation, and India’s expanding industrial and renewable energy ecosystem, the partnership is set to create strong synergies.
The Singapore-India Green and Digital Shipping Corridor reflects the shared vision of both nations to advance decarbonisation and digitalisation in maritime trade.
By combining India’s renewable energy strengths with Singapore’s maritime innovation capabilities, the partnership is expected to accelerate the shift towards sustainable shipping while boosting collaboration across the global maritime sector.
