Singapore and India are in discussions to sign a Letter of Intent (LoI) for a Green Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC), which will enhance maritime collaboration between the two nations. The signing is expected to take place next week during Singapore Maritime Week (March 24-28), where Indian Minister of Port, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, will lead a delegation.

“We are thinking of establishing a letter of intent with India as a start. It is something we are still working towards,” said Teo Eng Dih, chief executive of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), which is hosting the week-long maritime event.

According to Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA), the LoI aims to integrate India’s maritime sector into the global trade network through Singapore’s well-established maritime ecosystem.

Focus on Green Fuel and Digital Innovation

India is keen to export green fuels, such as biofuels, to Singapore and the region while also leveraging digital technologies to improve maritime operations.

The GDSC initiative aligns with global efforts to decarbonize shipping and enhance digital connectivity for efficient, low-emission maritime trade.
