Singapore handled a remarkable 3.87 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in July, setting a new record for the highest monthly container volume in 2025, as reported by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), reports Port News.

Bunkering Vessel Calls on the Rise

In July, the number of vessel calls for bunkering reached 3,651, which is a solid 7.3% increase from June.

Bunker Fuel Sales Hit 18-Month Peak

Bunker fuel sales surged to 4.92 million metric tons, marking the highest monthly total in over a year and a half. This reflects a 7.0% increase from the previous month and a 5.7% rise compared to the same time last year, showcasing the ongoing demand at the world’s largest ship refuelling hub.

The Role of the MPA

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Transport, tasked with regulating and developing the country’s port and maritime sectors. Their responsibilities include ensuring navigational safety, safeguarding the marine environment, and overseeing bunkering operations and standards.
