Singapore Solidifies Global Lead with FueLNG’s 500th Ship-to-Ship LNG Bunkering Operation

7

FueLNG, a leading provider of LNG bunkering solutions, has successfully completed its 500th ship-to-ship (STS) LNG bunkering operation. This achievement, which occurred in Singapore on August 16, 2025, highlights the company’s role in advancing the maritime energy transition. The milestone operation involved the bunkering vessel FueLNG Bellina supplying LNG to the AMPHITRITE HIGHWAY, a new-generation, LNG-fueled Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) operated by K-Line.

A Landmark Achievement for Singapore and FueLNG

The completion of the 500th operation by FueLNG solidifies Singapore’s reputation as a global leader in LNG bunkering. The success is attributed to the dedication of seafarers, technical teams, and strong collaboration among key partners like Shell, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), SLNG, and Seatrium. This milestone not only reflects operational excellence but also the growing trust from customers who are transitioning to cleaner fuels.

LNG Bunkering in Singapore Sees Record Growth

Singapore is experiencing a surge in LNG bunkering activity, with sales increasing by a remarkable 318.92% in 2024, from 111,000 tonnes in 2023 to 464,000 tonnes. This growth is a testament to Singapore’s successful development of the necessary infrastructure, clear regulations, and operational readiness to support a wide range of vessels. The FueLNG Bellina, Singapore’s first LNG bunkering vessel, has been a key player in this growth, facilitating numerous safe and efficient transfers to various types of ships.

Global Trends and Fleet Expansion

FueLNG’s milestone is part of a broader global trend of increased LNG adoption in the shipping industry. According to DNV’s Alternative Fuels Insight platform, the global LNG-fueled fleet currently includes 590 ships in operation, with another 564 on order. This includes large dual-fuel container vessels, demonstrating LNG’s viability for high-capacity, long-haul shipping.

The infrastructure is expanding to meet this demand, with 60 LNG bunkering vessels in service (and 13 more under construction) and 185 ports worldwide now offering LNG bunkering services. As a result, LNG-fueled vessels now account for nearly 6% of the global fleet’s deadweight tonnage, and approximately one-third of all new ship orders are for dual-fuel LNG-capable vessels.
