Singapore’s DSTA and Windward Collaborate on Maritime AI Research and Development

The Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) of Singapore and Windward Ltd, a prominent US-based company specializing in maritime Artificial Intelligence (AI), have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This collaborative agreement aims to foster joint research and development in the field of Maritime AI. The focus of this partnership will be on leveraging AI technologies to effectively address emerging threats and evolving trends within the maritime domain, reports PR Newswire. 

New Partnership

A new partnership has been formed to explore ways of enhancing the Singapore Armed Forces’ maritime domain capabilities through the application of digital technologies. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing this collaboration will also encompass talent development initiatives. These initiatives will include exchange programs and internship opportunities at Windward, providing DSTA (Defence Science and Technology Agency) engineers with opportunities to deepen their technical expertise.

Mr Cheng Heng Ngom, DSTA’s Group Technology Officer, emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration, stating, “This MOU underscores DSTA’s efforts to tap synergies with global partners. By leveraging our strengths and expertise, we seek to advance AI research and development to strengthen our maritime security capabilities, and protect our sea lines of communication.”
