- Landmark Deal Signed with Jiangnan Shipyard for LNG Bunkering Vessel.
- Vessel to Feature Smart Systems, BOG Power, and 25% GHG Reduction.
- Delivery Set for 2027 to Strengthen Shanghai’s LNG Bunkering Capacity.
On June 18, the Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) made waves by signing a significant contract with Jiangnan Shipyard, a part of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), to build a 20,000-cubic-meter LNG bunkering vessel, reports Xinde Marine News.
Advancing Shanghai’s Green Port Vision
This new project marks a crucial step in SIPG’s ambitious plan to turn Shanghai into a top-tier green and smart port, further solidifying its role as a key player in global shipping and energy.
State-of-the-Art Design and Technology
With design work by SDARI and construction by Jiangnan Shipyard, this vessel will feature cutting-edge LNG bunkering technologies. It will boast full electric azimuth propulsion, advanced vapour management systems, and smart ship capabilities to ensure peak performance and efficiency.
Environmental Benefits and Emission Reductions
Using boil-off gas (BOG) and outfitted with energy-saving systems, this vessel is projected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by around 25%. It will also come close to achieving zero emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx) and particulate matter (PM).
Delivery Timeline and Operational Impact
Set to be delivered in the first half of 2027, this vessel will significantly boost Shanghai’s LNG bunkering capabilities. It builds on SIPG’s impressive track record of over 200 successful ship-to-ship bunkering operations so far.
Driving China’s Maritime Energy Transition
This initiative showcases the partnership between two major state-owned enterprises and underscores China’s dedication to speeding up its clean energy transition in the maritime industry.
