Predict Marine, KOTUG, and ProAnalytics have joined forces to launch a pioneering feasibility study on smart maintenance in the maritime industry. This one-year project, kicking off this week, aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce OPEX (Operational Expenditure), and minimize environmental impact.
The Shift from Traditional to Smart Maintenance
Conventional maintenance strategies often follow fixed schedules without considering the real-time condition of ship systems. This can lead to unnecessary repairs, premature maintenance, or unplanned downtimes—all of which increase operational costs.
In contrast, smart maintenance leverages:
-
IoT (Internet of Things) and sensor technology
-
Advanced data analysis to monitor system performance
-
Predictive algorithms to determine optimal maintenance intervals
By shifting from reactive to proactive maintenance, this approach enhances vessel reliability and reduces maintenance costs.
Risk Modeling & Cost-Benefit Analysis
The feasibility study will:
-
Develop a risk model based on system performance data
-
Establish a smart maintenance strategy aligned with vessel operation
-
Link risk profiles to Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
This will help determine the financial feasibility of smart maintenance, ensuring it is both economically viable and technically efficient.
RVO’s Role in Advancing Maritime Innovation
This study is supported by RVO (Rijksdienst Voor Ondernemend Nederland) as part of its multi-year mission-driven innovation programs. RVO’s funding allows the consortium to:
-
Explore cutting-edge advancements in maritime maintenance
-
Develop sustainable and cost-effective solutions
-
Improve the long-term efficiency of vessel operations
With this initiative, the maritime industry moves closer to a data-driven future, where predictive maintenance reduces downtime, lowers costs, and enhances sustainability.
