Sohar Port and Freezone has launched the Port Management Information System, ‘Marasi,’ as part of its digital transformation journey. The launch was under the patronage of Eng Khamis bin Mohammed Al-Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Transport, reports Times of Oman.

A Global Solution for Enhanced Maritime Operations

Currently, ‘Marasi’, the web-based system, already operates at over 50 world ports. Sohar Port sees this innovation- and efficiency-driving design at the helm: it would actually optimize maritime business operations while keeping stakeholders cooperating. Data interchange may also be very much improved by this innovative change.

Advanced Features for Seamless Port Management

Marasi has a user-friendly interface to simplify interactions between stakeholders, including marine and port service providers, terminals, and shipping agents. It has a mobile application for marine pilots that enables secure electronic access to and recording of vessel data, thereby reducing manual processes and improving data accuracy.

The other advantages include real-time communication, automated operational notifications, electronic submission of Environmental Ship Index (ESI) data, and direct access to invoices. Overall, the changes improve efficiency and transparency in the operations.

A Strategic Milestone in Oman’s Economic Vision

Emile Hoogsteden, CEO of Sohar Port, highlighted the importance of Marasi in advancing Sohar Port’s digital transformation, saying: “The launch of Marasi represents a key milestone in advancing Sohar Port and Freezone’s digital transformation. This system enhances operational efficiency, resource management, and collaboration across our maritime community. Aligned with Oman Vision 2040, Marasi leverages innovation to drive economic diversification, enhance global competitiveness, and support sustainable growth. With this initiative, we continue to position Sohar as a vital enabler of Oman’s logistics and trade ambitions.”

Real-Time Insights and Operational Transparency

Marasi provides accurate, real-time data to help in making the right decisions. Among its key features are API connectivity with internal and external systems, digital signatures on marine certifications, simplified incident reporting, and a comprehensive feedback mechanism that feeds into continuous improvement.

The system further encourages openness by providing the public with schedules and updates about vessels’ operations through a bulletin board that doesn’t require a login.

Consistent with Oman Vision 2040

The launch of Marasi reflects Sohar Port and Freezone’s strategic vision to utilize digital solutions for operational excellence, improved stakeholder engagement, and sustainable growth. By adopting this cutting-edge system, Sohar strengthens its position as a leader in the regional and global logistics landscape, contributing to Oman’s economic diversification and competitiveness.
