Rebekah Keeler, Cruise Strategy Manager at ABP, expressed pride in the port’s capabilities and partnerships, which have enabled it to facilitate significant economic growth. She emphasized Southampton’s leading position within the UK and Northern European cruise industry.
The Port of Southampton also achieved a significant milestone in environmental sustainability. In 2024, a record number of cruise vessels utilized the port’s state-of-the-art shore power facilities, minimizing environmental impact.
Furthermore, the port received recognition for its exceptional passenger experience, being rated highest in passenger reviews at a prestigious industry awards ceremony.
Award Given
The Port of Southampton was awarded the “Best UK Departure Port for 2024” at the Cruise Critic Awards, based on positive passenger reviews. Key factors contributing to this recognition include efficient embarkation and debarkation processes, convenient parking options, prime location, and the availability of diverse activities in the city.
Environmentally, 2024 was a record year with a 50% increase in cruise vessels utilizing Southampton’s shore power facilities, enabling zero emissions at berth. ABP is actively working with local authorities and the National Grid to expand the availability of shore power within the port.
