Remolques Gijoneses has ordered another escort tug from a Turkish owner and builder to handle larger ships, says an article published in Riviera Maritime Media.
About The Tug
The harbour tug will provide towage in the Spanish port of Gijón, with delivery from Med Marine in 2021.
Med Marine will build this tug at its Eregli Shipyard, where it has 185,000 m2 construction area and 30,000 m2 enclosed space.
Azimuth stern drive (ASD)
This will be an azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug from the MED-A2575 series with 70 tonnes of bollard pull based on Robert Allan’s RAmparts 2500W design.
It will have an overall length of 25.2 m, beam of 12 m and hull depth of 4.6 m.
Specification
Remolques Gijoneses’ new tug will have a pair of Caterpillar 3516C main engines, each developing 2,100 kW of power at 1,600 rpm driving two Kongsberg US255 SP30 fixed-pitch propeller thrusters.
This ASD tug will have a top speed of 12 knots and accommodation for seven people.
It will also have a THR Marine fore towing winch and a FiFi-E class fire-fighting system with one pump able to deliver 1400 m3 /hr of water and foam from two monitors.
About MED Marine
MED-2575 series are robust and versatile ASD tugs for ship-handling, coastal towing, general purpose or escort duties.
Med Marine has delivered eight units of this series with different bollard pulls (60, 70 and 75 tonnes) for various owners. Its previous newbuild contract for this MED-A2575 series was signed by Italian Cafimar Group in September.
Remolques Gijoneses already operates tugs built by Med Marine in the Port of Gijón.
Services
Its core activity is to provide ship handling services at the port and coastal towage, plus it provides rescue, salvage and fire-fighting services.

Med Marine sales manager Melis Üçüncü said the company has a long-term collaboration with Remolques Gijoneses. “Once delivered, three Med Marine-built tugs will operate in Remolques Gijoneses’ fleet,” she said.
