ST Engineering unveils its new shipyard at 55 Gul Road which will replace its Tuas Yard, whose lease expires this year, reads an official news release.
AI-Powered Smart Shipyard with 5G Infrastructure
Twice the size of Tuas Yard, the Gul Yard is designed to handle larger, more complex projects with shorter turnaround times.
The Gul yard, acquired in February 2023 for $95 million, will strengthen ST Engineering’s position in the competitive ship repair market, enabling the company to take on more complex projects with increased efficiency.
The new facility is twice the size of the Tuas Yard and will meet Singapore’s navy requirements. The yard allows ST Engineering to explore emerging sectors, such as offshore renewables, and provide full services to domestic and international customers.
Through Gul Yard, ST Engineering will also explore new markets, including offshore renewables, and oil and gas vessels, as well as refits and upgrades for local and international customers.
The yard is also equipped with 5G-digital infrastructure to enable the application of AI-powered technologies. To reduce carbon emissions by 2034, the yard adopts renewable energy sources such as ammonia, hydrogen, biofuel, and solar power.
In addition, it will also deploy electric-powered AGVs and buggies to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and implement efficient scrap sorting and recycling processes to minimise waste.
