This development marks the successful completion of all preparatory steps by the targeted deadline of June 30, thanks to strong collaboration with Swedish authorities, government bodies, and trade unions. Stena Bulk Advances Swedish Maritime Presence with Suezmax Reflagging Plan

Currently, Sweden has no Suezmax tankers under its registry. Stena Bulk’s decision to reflag five such vessels marks a strategic move to strengthen the country’s maritime resilience and operational capacity amid evolving global challenges. Stena Sunrise is set to lead this transition, with the remaining four tankers to follow based on practical operational schedules and port availability.

The company is aligning each reflagging with the vessels’ commercial routes to ensure minimal disruption and smooth administrative execution. Emphasizing safety and efficiency, Stena Bulk has coordinated closely with Swedish authorities, focusing on crew readiness, regulatory compliance, and technical standards. This cooperative effort demonstrates the company’s intent to convert strategy into solid, real-world outcomes.

Erik Hånell, President & CEO of Stena Bulk, highlighted the value of Sweden’s proactive support, stating that the reflagging process has been swift and professionally managed due to strong partnerships with government bodies and trade unions.

By registering these vessels under the Swedish flag, Stena Bulk is set to contribute significantly to the growth of the national maritime sector. This move is expected to generate new opportunities for Swedish maritime professionals while also elevating the country’s presence in international maritime forums such as the EU and IMO. The company reaffirmed its commitment to Sweden’s long-term maritime ambitions and looks forward to continued collaboration with public and private stakeholders.
