Several companies are collaborating to jointly assess potential opportunities for engaging with government entities, particularly major ports. The primary objective of these engagements is to explore ways to enhance the capabilities within the country for both ship repair services and offshore fabrication projects, reports Business Line.

Modernizing Infra

Drydocks World, a company under the DP World umbrella, and Cochin Shipyard Ltd have announced a collaboration to jointly assess opportunities for establishing world-class ship maintenance and repair facilities. The focus of this evaluation will be on developing ship repair clusters in Kochi and Vadinar, located in Gujarat.

This partnership is expected to play a vital role in modernizing India’s maritime infrastructure, expanding the ship repair industry within the country, and creating new employment opportunities. According to a press release, the collaboration will explore potential for developing ship repair clusters along India’s coastline, leveraging the combined expertise of both Drydocks World and Cochin Shipyard Ltd.

Strategic Partnership 

As part of their strategic partnership, Drydocks World and Cochin Shipyard Ltd will jointly explore opportunities for engaging with government entities, including major ports in India. The aim of these engagements will be to enhance the nation’s ship repair and offshore fabrication capabilities. Furthermore, the collaboration will consider expanding into related areas such as marine engineering and strategic infrastructure projects within the maritime domain.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DP World, emphasized India’s potential to become a global maritime hub, citing its extensive coastline and world-class ports. He stated that “The partnership with Cochin Shipyard will accelerate the development of cutting-edge ship repair and fabrication facilities, playing an important role in achieving this goal.”

Madhu S Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Limited, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “we join hands with Drydocks World to take ship repair and conversions in India to the next level. The MoU marks the beginning of our effort at strategic collaboration aimed at leveraging the mutual strengths of two organisations.”
