Streamlining Container Trade: DCSA’s New Identity Exchange Enhances Digital Verification

7

The Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) has introduced Identity Exchange, a digital solution aimed at simplifying and strengthening business identity verification across the shipping and logistics sector.

Global trade depends on trust, yet every new partnership typically begins with repeated compliance and KYC checks, document collection, and identity verification across multiple jurisdictions. These processes are often slow, inconsistent, and costly, leaving the industry exposed to operational and compliance risks. Identity Exchange offers a trusted gateway to verified company information, enabling organisations to improve data quality, reduce compliance risk, and accelerate partner onboarding — providing a more reliable foundation for digital trade.

Developed in close collaboration with DCSA’s founding member carriers and industry partners, Identity Exchange reflects the association’s mission to drive and accelerate digital transformation across container shipping. This collaboration ensures the solution addresses real operational needs while aligning with the workflows of global trade.

Niels Nuyens, Chief Product Officer at DCSA, emphasized that Identity Exchange exemplifies the association’s role in the sector’s digital evolution. He noted that while standards remain essential, achieving full digitalisation requires robust digital infrastructure, and Identity Exchange is DCSA’s first product designed to enhance daily operations and enable scalable digital solutions.

The platform has already demonstrated strong performance, achieving a 95% success rate in delivering verified company data. This highlights its effectiveness in strengthening compliance, improving onboarding efficiency, and adding tangible value to shipping operations.

Industry users have endorsed the platform’s capabilities. Yossi Bar, Traffic Manager, and Missy Barron, Business and Documentation Supervisor at ZIM, confirmed that Identity Exchange supports their strategy to maintain excellent customer service while ensuring full compliance with international regulations and sanctions.

All DCSA product initiatives are developed collaboratively to accelerate the container shipping industry’s digital transformation. Revenue generated from these products supports the association’s continued work in delivering open standards and industry-wide solutions.
