The fires on the Greek-flagged tanker Sounion, which were ignited after a Houthi attack in the Red Sea on August 21, have been successfully extinguished. The operation, conducted by a specialized team of 27 members and supported by the vessel Aigaion Pelagos, brought the situation under control.
Following the extinguishing efforts, Sounion is being towed by Aigaion Pelagos toward Suez. Upon arrival, the tanker’s cargo of 150,000 tons of Iraqi crude oil will be transferred to another vessel to ensure safe delivery.
