The civil conflict in Sudan is causing disruption in Shipping industry, says an article published on Xindemarinenews.

Club correspondents advise

Changes in the operational status of ports may occur at any time.

Club correspondents advise that fighting is currently centred in and around Khartoum. Port Sudan is quieter in comparison, and although the port was closed on 17 April, port operations had resumed as of 18 April and roads have re-opened.

Military rule and recent efforts

Tensions between rival military factions have been high since the ousting of previous ruler Omar al-Bashir in 2019.

The country fell under military rule and recent efforts to transition to a civilian-led government have faltered.

Volatile and fast-changing

The rival military factions are the Sudanese armed forces – led by their general, the country’s de facto ruler – and the paramilitaries of a collective known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The situation is likely to remain volatile and fast-changing.
