On October 30th, tragic struck aboard a general cargo vessel BBC ASIA while uploading a cargo of pipes from barge moored alongside her portside using vessel’s cranes.
Three dockers were smashed to the hull plating in a hold by a bunch of pipes which suddenly moved while lowering. Two workers died on the spot and one other was reported to be in serious condition in the hospital.
Preliminary reports suggest that a sudden movement of the bunch of pipes may be the root cause for the ship’s movement or jolt, more investigation is underway.
