Suez tanker traffic remains steady in March as the Red Sea crisis crosses the 100-day mark.
100 day mark crossed
Over 100 days have passed since Yemen’s Houthi rebel group began attacking commercial ships in the southern Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The Houthi militia has threatened to escalate attacks against Israel-linked ships “even through the Indian Ocean and from South Africa to the Cape of Good Hope,” Iranian state-owned broadcast channel PressTV reported, citing Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi.
Average tankers passed
In contrast, tanker transit calls around the Cape of Good Hope are generally down over the past fortnight. An average of 17 tankers/day passed through the Cape of Good Hope in the second half of March, lower than 18 tankers/day in the first half.
