What happened?
Greek Suezmax tanker EPHESOS collided with Turkish fishing boat south of Karatas, Adana Province, eastern Med, shortly after leaving Ceyhan Oil Terminal, at around 0300 UTC Nov 11.
Rescue operations
Fishing boat capsized with 5 crew on board. The Master of the vessel initiated a search operation, waiting for the arrival of the Turkish Coastguard, which took over the SAR operation while the EPHESOS remained on site.
During the SAR operation the bodies of five fishermen were, according to latest reports, retrieved from the water.
Andriaki Shipping CEO’s statement
Andriaki Shipping CEO, Dimitris Korkodilos issued a statement after the conclusion of the SAR operation expressing their heartfelt condolences. “We will remain at the disposal of the relevant Authorities in order to assist in the investigation of the causes of this very sad incident.”
The crew of the EPHESOS are all in good health and the vessel has not suffered any damage.
Investigations triggered
The EPHESOS will remain on site, in international waters, awaiting instructions by the Authorities as investigations are said to be underway.
