On 2nd October 2015, around 17:45 hrs local time, the 57,000 dwt Supramax bulk carrier Alexandrit was arrested.  The action took place following the lawsuit filed by law firm  Oon & Bazul LLP.  The ship is owned by Germany’s Conti Group. Conti Group’s has a fleet of 78 vessels, including 34 post-panmax container vessels, of which 17 vessels are in the 7,500 TEU + size category.

The widespread difficulties faced by the bulk sector could  be attributed as cause for arrest, although no direct reports were available.  The vessel is currently valued at  $13.24 million and lies anchored off Singapore’s Eastern coast.

Other reports obtained show a double arrest issued by Oon & Bazul last month, involving outstanding OW Bunker debts.
