Seven survivors of the “Tinaztepe S” were repatriated and brought to Istanbul on March 20. They arrived at Ataturk Airport at 3.30 p.m.

Also, the official procedure for the transport of four bodies was completed by the Misurata Consulate.

What happened?

The “Tinaztepe S”, loaded with a cargo of marble dust, had broken in two amidships in rough seas and sank soon after in deep water about 2.5 miles off Misurata on March 16 at 12.30 a.m.

2 crew members missing:

The two missing crew members have not yet been found despite dive operations which were continued depending on the weather conditions.

The water temperature was five degrees C. Among the deceased was Dogan Tuğbay, the second captain of the ship, aged 66 years and coming from İzmir.

He was a retired marine petty officer and captain for 23 years. He worked as a second captain after his retirement in 1994 and has been captain between Marmaris and Rhodes for the last four years.

Tuğbay’ın lost his life because the captain of the ship was ill and he accepted to take over the task instead of returning to his relatives.
