Suspicious Maritime Activity Reported Near Garacad Somalia

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has issued an alert regarding suspicious maritime activity off the coast of Somalia. The incident occurred on 28 October, approximately 106 nautical miles south of Eyl, in the region of Garacad.

Incident Overview

According to UKMTO, local authorities intercepted two dhows that were reportedly engaging in suspicious behavior in the area. One of the vessels has been seized, while the second dhow managed to evade capture and remains unlocated. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the nature of the activity and any potential security threats.

Advisory for Vessels

Mariners operating in the region are urged to maintain heightened vigilance. UKMTO has advised vessels transiting near Garacad to proceed with caution and immediately report any suspicious activity to UKMTO or the Maritime Security Centre – Indian Ocean (MSCIO).

The latest report underscores the continued need for situational awareness in high-risk waters off Somalia. Close coordination with maritime security agencies and adherence to best management practices remain essential to ensuring the safety of vessels and crew operating in the area.
